CITY COUNCIL ELECTION 1951
The Municipal Commission was renamed City Council after Singapore was granted the status of a British city. The six City Councillors whose term expired had won the biggest victories in the first Municipal Election in 1949. They were three from PP, all whom were seeking a new term, and three independents, all whom were retiring. One of the independents, P. J. Johnson, was elected under LP. Meanwhile, a sitting independent Councillor in Rochore and former PP member, S. A. Mohamed Ali, returned to PP's fold. For the only time, LP won the most seats although PP continued to maintain its lead. All seats changed hands as PP captured new wards and was defeated in their incumbent ones.
