On 22 January 2025, the Elections Department announced that Prime Minister Lawrence Wong had convened the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee, and on 11 March 2025, the Commitee's report was released, outlining an extensive slate of changes. This included the creation of 6 new SMCs and 5 new GRCs.
On 15 April 2025, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam dissolved Parliament and issued the Writ of Election, setting the stage for voters to go to the polls in early May 2025, a return to a previous trend where the 2006 and 2011 general elections were also held during that part of the year.
