| Set up by a UPP founder Lui Boon Poh, PAP member Leong Mun Kwai and several former Barisan leaders, it split barely a month after registration over a leader purportedly planted by PAP, with Leong's faction ousting Lui's. Leong was jailed in 1972 and again in 1976, both times for criminal defamation, and decided to quit politics. By November 1976, before the General Election, most of its members had crossed over to WP. The remnants left for UF after the GE, leaving the party dormant. |
